Meet Valeria
Graduating in the year 2023, Valeria Ramirez is currently a sophomore at Santa Fe High School. She is extremely active and out-going in terms of extracurricular activities, where she takes part in Student Gov, NHS (National Honors Society), bilingual classes, as well as being involved as an intern for The New Mexican . By the time she graduates, she hopes to receive both the NM Simon Scholarship and the QuestBridge Scholarship, two nationally wide recognized scholarships. In her own opinion, Valeria thinks her biggest strengths are her leadership skills, how well she collaborates with others, and her time management. When her biggest weaknesses are entered into the equation, Valeria comments on how she struggles with procrastination and organization.
From her freshman year, Valeria has kept her eye on Yale University. Being an experienced overachiever, Valeria has always been attached to the idea of attending an Ivy League for college. The more she learned about different schools, she found out that Yale has a great study-life balance. She is also attracted to their phenomenal pre-law program, their connections to great internships, the number of notable alumni that studied at Yale, as well as how their traditions play a role in developing the Yale experience as a whole. Valeria loves to read and write, two major components in law. She is also very interested in criminology, and conveniently researched how Law incorporates reading/writing with criminology. She is deeply invested in finding a career where she can work and help others. Valeria hopes that in three years time, she will be a freshman studying pre-law at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut.
When asked about her hopes and dreams for the future, Valeria looks most forward to college, making new friends and decorating her dorm room when the time comes. She also cannot wait to see for herself how all of her hard work has paid off when she graduates from highschool, college, and hopefully Law school. After law school, she hopes to become an attorney and work as an FBI agent. But, before all of that happens, she eagerly awaits the day she gets her drivers license.
Valeria is very loving towards her friends and family, including her poodle, Daisy, and her golden retriever, Murko. She has been competing as a gymnast for a while now, and continues to show her passion for her favorite sport. On top of these things she is most passionate about, creative writing, or writing just in general are her favorite hobbies. Before covid hit, Valeria spent a lot of time away with her friends, as well as walking her dogs to the park and biking. But now, she has a smaller bubble of people she sees, but continues to bike and walk her dogs. In her own words, she portrays herself as energetic, quiet, motivated, happy, and athletic. Yet, she thinks she is more of an introvert than an extrovert. Valeria’s never-ending hopes and dreams for her future continue to grow as she sprouts into the young entrepreneur she is.
